Harleen Kaur is a Research Manager at Digital Futures Lab. With a background spanning law and the sciences, her work focuses on the intersection of regulatory governance and emerging technologies. She has previously provided policy guidance to both government and non-government bodies in science, technology, and healthcare. Harleen is particularly interested in studying applied ethics within healthcare and related sectors, exploring how digital technologies can be responsibly governed while being mindful of the trade-offs between ethics and economic development in these sectors. In addition, she likes to introspect about the role of a public policy practitioner in society now and then.

In her recent project at DFL, Harleen is working on developing practical guidelines for the adoption of AI-based solutions in tertiary care hospitals in India. This study focuses on the issues faced by healthcare providers while delivering patient care with the aid of AI tools, and the concerns of healthcare administrators in procuring these technologies. In addition, she is also involved in a foresight-based research project that aims to understand the unintended consequences of Generative AI in sectors including healthcare, agriculture, local governance, and judiciary in India.

When not actively working, she likes to work towards her goal of consuming every true crime story ever documented, reading about how the human brain works, and doing a bit of gardening.
